Description
Are you wondering what to do when your students have the same need but don’t fit perfectly into a group because they’re reading at different levels?
This online course is for you if:
- you find yourself looking at your data, willing your students to fall perfectly in to five groups with similar needs and a similar reading level but your reality is quite different.
- you’re wondering if there are other small group instructional practices for reading that allow more flexibility with grouping.
- you’ve heard about strategy groups, but have never seen them in action.
The course:
In this self-paced online mini-course, Oz Lit Teacher and I:
- look at why strategy groups are an effective practice for small group instruction in reading.
- discuss the purpose of strategy groups and look at why you would choose to group students based on a strategy.
- look at some real formative assessment on a class of students and show you how to use your data to group students based on strategy.
- break down the structure of a strategy group lesson and look at the role of the teacher through the lesson.
- watch a video of a strategy lesson to show you what it looks like in action.
